Kitty Killing Spree...

Some of you might be wondering about how Monsignor Miaowrini has been getting on since her accident. I have to confess that I thought she would find it slightly more difficult to catch mice, and almost impossible to catch birds. That knee was pretty badly wrecked, and she limps quite badly when the weather is damp.

One look at the Kitty Kill Count in the sidebar should give you a clue. Cardinal Furretti is happy to chase mice when they are presented to her, but she seems to be rather indolent, and rarely spends time outside. The majority of live captures (and therefore, I assume, the majority of kills) are down to the predations of the feisty Monsignor.

I don't know what is happening, but she seems to be ramping things up. It's a rare morning when I don't discover a little something left out for me to find. Fortunately Miaowrini likes to leave things by the front door, so I haven't been unfortunate enough to tread on the offerings as I stagger barefoot and bleary-eyed to the bathroom. One night I rescued a live mouse from under her nose, and the next morning I found two birds and another dead mouse. On Thursday morning I found three dead mice.

I'm considering loaning her out for a small fee...

Impressive kitty kill count but I notice the trophies do not include a snake. My donkeys managed to trample a snake today, but having killed it, they all retired to a safe distance near the perimeter of the field and stared at it in fear. I had to carry it off with a pitchfork, much to their relief.

My Erica is a killing machine too, but she takes them under the deck where she has a particular triumphant meow to announce her feat.

She leaves the birds alone...

Yes, Adrienne, Miaowrini also has a "bragging miaow" when she brings something in... It is just that sometimes I am asleep!!!

You should be grateful Mac that your kitty brings you tribute, ours just lies around and expects to be waited on hand and foot.

The "kill count" here at Catcliffe will be cut in half this summer. "Mr. Cat" came home hobbling on 3 legs a couple of weeks ago. It turned out he had a broken leg, requiring surgical repair. I should have heeded Miaowrini's story and purchased insurance, but no. I am liable for the whole bill, equivalent to £2000. The cat is now on 10 weeks of "cage rest," missing all the fun of summer (as are his owners, who won't be going on holiday as a result). Perhaps "Mrs Cat" will take pity on her "brother" and bring him a bird, as he ate the last bird she caught.
