Now That's What I Call A Mantilla...

There was a Mass in the extraordinary form at Corpus Christi, Maiden Lane this evening. Nearly every woman and girl present was wearing a mantilla. I managed to take lots of photos (though not of the congregation - you'll have to trust me on the mantilla front!) I haven't got time to upload them all tonight, but here's one to be getting on with...

In the meantime, Fr. Ray Blake sent me a rather snazzy photo the other day, and mischievously titled it "Solemn High Mulier Fortis and Accomplice." I have to say that I heartily approve of the style (though I personally aways wear black.) The altar is also pretty stunning...

Are you taking pictures during Mass with your camera phone while the bells are ringing? Daring! I'd be afraid my camera function would click too loudly. But thank you for the glimpse, it does look lovely. We have nothing similar nearby.

Hey, I like it! And yes, the Altar is gorgeous!

Leeann, not only does my camera phone have a silent setting, but there is also a "flight mode" where I can block any calls while still being able to use the other functions. I don't even have to hold it at eye level to take the photos... So it's pretty discreet!

Awesom, let us pray that one day each and every Parish in the world is able to have a Holy Mass worthy of the sacrifice like Corpus Christi in Maiden Lane. The pictures are so beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

The second photo seems to be of nuns wearing their 'adoration veils'. You still see this in certain churches where the nuns who adore the Blessed Sacrament perpetually would come in and put on a floor-length veil before kneeling in the centre of the sanctuary...

mantilla shmantilla, what is it with the mantillas, it's like people think it's in the rubrics or something - there's a world of hats, scarves, all sorts, out there - okay, I got two mantillas, they fold up small and are handy for carryig about plus black goes with almost everything and they go over the hair when it's pinned up - but still, let's branch out a bit, huh?

Berenike, I have no objection to hats... as long as they are on other people. I'm not a hat person.

Aw, c'mon, Mac. If I wear a baseball cap with lace all around the bottom?

BTW, I like the yellow cream with white....we have something similar, but not as much yellow cream.

Do you know your London Churches? I'd really love to know the name of the Catholic Church by Queensborough (way? Ln? Terrace? Whatever it was?) It was "round" with a gallery. And what about Catholic churches in the theatre district? Is there a good page overall for London Catholic Churches. My A-Z guide isn't a lot of help, and I'd love to know their names. It's been almost 20 years since I got to go to London.
