Feast Of The Annunciation

Today was one of those days. After a day's teaching, we had a staff meeting, followed by Parents' Evening. I was sorely tempted to go straight home and hide under the duvet...

...but, of course, it's the Feast of the Annunciation, and I knew that the Sisters of the Immaculate were coming to Blackfen to sing the propers of the Mass, so I dragged my weary bones to the church.

I'm so glad I did... the Mass was awesome, and it simply flew by. The cold-hearted, spirit-quenching agents of global horror were out in force, which meant that we were able to field a full complement of six torchbearers; the Sisters of the Immaculate were in fine voice, and so, no doubt, the global consequences will be truly horrific...

I couldn't resist capturing the event for any passing Tabletistas: I'd hate to deprive anyone of the opportunity to weep for the cold-hearted rejection of the past 40 years...

Fr. Charles Briggs (PP of St. Mary's, Chislehurst) was paying us a visit... and he caught me taking a few photos!

After Mass, many of us went over to the Large Hall where members of the UCM had prepared scones, fruitcake, tea and coffee (and lots of other stuff, apparently, but those spirit quenching hordes got there while I was helping to tidy up the Sacristy... so I scoffed all the halves of scones which were left over - it had been a very long day!)

I managed to get a good shot of Mother Assunta and eight of her Sisters in the hall before they went home... Now they really look like cold-hearted, spirit-quenching agents of global horror... and they seem so cheerful about it too...

The only thing left to say: "Tabula delenda est!"

I am so angry for having missed such a wonderful evening (I had to work) but its not the only time that this has happened, and doubtless will not be the last. I wonder if its a sin to constantly hate one's job? Anyway, glad everyone involved had a pleasant evening.

Oh my goodness, that second picture. How could anyone think of it as spirit-quenching? ;(

Wonderful Mac, thanks for the photos. Couldn't make the Mass, but we were with you all in spirit during our family rosary yesterday evening.

The photo of the Sisters is great! As you say they really do look like sinister "cold-hearted, spirit-quenching agents of global horror"!

Rock on Sisters!!!! You are the Troopers in the front line of the True Renewal, helping Papa Benedict with the reform of the reform. Witnessing to the Catholic Faith by wearing full habit - now that's a good platform to start from. How sad that 'the spirit of V2' decimated the convents to such a great degree. But there is a 'springtime' of renewal in the air for sure. The Tabletistas must be writhing, foaming and going apopleptic with all this going on - and in BLACKFEN too!!!!

Just when they thought that their snidey little 'hatchet job' piece would put an end to all this Latin stuff - HAAAAA! How wrong can you be!
