Happy Fourth Of July...

I guess that all my transatlantic readers (you know who you are, all four of you!) will be celebrating today (well, what's left of it... I'm a bit snowed under today!)

One of the most amusing posts for an ignoramus such as myself is the one by Vincenzo - three You Tube cartoons to explain what all the fuss is about. I think I like this one best...

...though I'm not sure about "the pursuit of happiness" ! Go over to Vincenzo's for the other two...

Well, no. This particular transatlantic regular reader and kitten fan lives in Canada and is descended, in part, from the United Empire Loyalists--English colonials who remained loyal to Britain and were driven out by the rebels. My 3rd great-grandfather fought for the British during that war and like many, came to Canada afterwards. And we've been here ever since.

Thanks, Mac! Please keep the United States in your prayers. And I agree with Stitchwort: please keep the kitten posts coming!

Thank you, Mac! It's been a quiet 4th here in my part of the country, but fireworks can be seen for miles around from the back porch of the farmhouse. :)

Hey! How come you missed July 1st? Especially since we have your Royal newlyweds over here, celebrating Canada Day on the hill. I know Canada is only the second largest country in the world, and we're very self effacing and much too polite to blow our own trumpet, and the rest of the world tends to ignore us, (unless we have a riot, which is very un Canadian, I might add), but really it does hurt sometimes that our neighbours to the south get all the attention, and they're not even part of the Commonwealth, and the Queen is not their head of state. But there's really no excuse, didn't you see the big celebration in Trafalgar Square? Next year try it out, our Tim Hortons were there and they make a good cup of coffee and a mean donut. signed: Faithful Canuck blog reader.

LOL! Elizabeth, that was a lovely rant!

So now you've heard from four, and it looks like the score is Canada 2 - US 2. If this were hockey, we'd be going into overtime.

I am an American who reads your blog (I was intrigued by a link about private vows in the Sponsa Christi blog: I am a Lay Carmelite who is discerning a possible vocation to consecrated virginity, but would have to take private vows before doing so -- or even in lieu of doing so). Although my father's family is of Prince Edward Island Acadian and Quebecois descent and I probably know more Canadian history than your average Yank (just get me started on Sir Wilfrid Laurier or Pierre Trudeau!), I am a native of Southern California.

Had a very quiet Fourth -- didn't even go out to see fireworks :-( But I am happy that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are coming to Los Angeles this week. And, yes, please do keep the kitten posts coming!
