Prayers Please...

Tomorrow I have a job interview. Part of the process will involve teaching Year 9 about plate tectonics. I find this one of the most boring topics on the specification: I much prefer torturing jelly babies...

In an attempt to liven things up, I have planned a demonstration. When I tell you that this involves pieces of cardboard and a pan of tomato soup, you will appreciate that tomorrow could be a trifle fraught. Prayers would be welcome.

I will be providing my own tomato soup, to ensure the correct viscosity... as well as practicing my pronunciation of Eyjafjallajokull... ah-ya-fyah... aye-ya-fee-ya... ay-yor-feh... that Icelandic volcano...

Jelly babies never did me or anyone else any hurt or harm so I cannot understand why you would rather torture them!
But if you really need prayers you will get them.
However I think those in your vicinity when you are armed with a pan of tomato soup might also need a prayer :-)

Thank you, Father!

Believe me, jelly babies in potassium chlorate are far more impressive than heated tomato soup... (follow the link)

A letter in The Times suggested that the volcano's pronunciation was like "Hey-a-fella-yokel". It certainly has the advantage of being easily remembered!
Good luck and prayers.

Best of luck, done the whole (teaching) interview malarky recently, don't envy you! I did the interviewing recently as well and didn't really enjoy that either!

Good luck, Mac.

Jelly babies?!? Oh, the only time I've had them is when I got them from the England exhibit at EPCOT at Disney World. All I needed was a long woolen scarf, and all would have been good.

From what I understand, they're not made anymore. Is that true?

Good luck, Mac - I'll be storming heaven for you today! Guess tomato soup's off the menu tonight then? :-)

Thanks for the encouragement & prayers, everyone!

Larry, jelly babies are still made over here. There are various pale imitations, but the best are from Bassetts. I wrote about them.

Miss Ellen - I occasionally get a hankering for tomato soup (hence its presence in my cupboard) but somehow I suspect you are right...

I said a quick one as your requested. And speaking of plate tectonics, the Obama Administration will be honoring the 43rd President of the United States by naming the gap between the tectonic plates beneath Haiti after him. The area will now officially be referred to as ...

Imagine a Viking gargling. That's Icelandic.

Justrobnj - if you had followed my link in the post, you'd have heard the correct (Icelandic) pronunciation as well as several BBC newsies getting it rather spectacularly wrong...

Sorry I didn't see this Mac, as I have barely had time to browse the last few days due to feeling poorly, but praying for the outcome. May God's will be done :¬)
