I have fallen foul of that beastly bug which so torments teachers... yes, I have contracted the dreaded lurgy! Symptoms include a red, runny nose (which feels ten times its normal size and is tender to boot), streaming eyes, an aching head, a running temperature (but feeling cold at intervals), a gravelly sensation in the throat, and, most disastrous of all, a loss of power in the vocal cords...
It is a well-documented fact that children are highly effective little incubators for just about any micro-organism you care to mention. I remember being warned at King's College (where I was doing my teacher training) that it takes approximately two years to set up immunity to a new school population...
I am feeling very, very sorry for myself!

Yikes ... two years. I always dread when "flu shot" season comes around.
I used to NEVER take them, then one year decided "why not?" So I took one, and while people were being felded to the left and right of me, I sailed through with no trouble. I thought "This is great, I will NEVEr face another season without a flu shot again." Next year? I took one. That shot apparently only covered 2 of the 8 strains of flu and I must have gotten the 6 other ones. I don't ever remember being so sick from flu in my adult life.

Treat yourself to a hot toddy and an early night - and hope you feel better soon. x
Sorry, that should have been "and *I* hope you feel better soon" - I was offering sympathy, not issuing orders!
Hot toddy old girl, lemon spiked with cloves, brown sugar (honey is better), whiskey shot, and hot water. Lots of them and go to bed. Works for me every time.
blech. I hope you feel better!
Awww... get well soon!
I think I've had a dose of this, but am not giving in--I came home early from work yesterday, and am going back in now.
Large families rarely have these illnesses due to their improved immunity..hope you're better soon..
Term started last week in this country, and I've already caught the flu, too...
My dad, a University teacher, says exactly the same thing about University students, and he's always ill at the start of term!
It's a peril of your vocation, m'dear. I have a variation on the theme; it's no fun, is it? Get well soon!
Hope you feel better soon- hot toddy is a great idea and as someone once said to me "Take plenty of drugs dear, plenty of drugs"
Hope you feel better soon.
Sniffles are striking at my place too.
My favourite remedy is Lemsip max direct. Brilliant. Tastes like sherbit dip dab, contains lots of paracetamol. Just have to remember that they aren't sweets, as it's easy to think you might like a second dose.
