Something to Celebrate!

The 10th Baroness Howard de Walden, a Roman Catholic, decided this week that abortion clinics would not be allowed in Harley Street, her private property. The list of procedures which cannot be carried out in Harley Street clinics will also include cloning and euthanasia.

There aren't any direct abortion clinics in Harley Street at the moment, so nothing is being "closed down" but I think that this quote from Anne Quesney, director of pro-choice group Abortion Rights indicates that it is very good news indeed:

"This decision is reminiscent of the US, where abortion clinics are being driven underground, closed down or attacked.

"There, the anti-choice lobby's tactics have severely impacted on women's access to abortion - driving them to desperate measures.

"Forty years after abortion was legalised in Britain, women's rights continue to be under threat from those who oppose abortion and want to impose their personal beliefs across the country."

Nothing personal about wanting to stop murder...

What violent troglodytes we are, to be sure! Driving abortion clinics into Indian reservations, strip malls, and big cities; calling abortion "murder" in public debate; and - gasp! - discouraging people from going to abortion clinics by such malicious methods as leaflet-passing, public prayer, and sign-waving!

And don't even start on how nasty we are to nuclear missile sites!

"women's rights continue to be under threat from those who oppose abortion and want to impose their personal beliefs across the country."

PP of Britain, of course, has no desire for their personal beliefs to be imposed. They just want justice, which will result in big $$$$ for PP of Britain. No ulterior motives, folks.

What I like most is the rank hypocrisy that is on display here. So Pro-Lifers are to be criticised for imposing their beliefs upon the country. And Anne Quesney is doing what, exactly...?

A Hail Mary for the Baroness's intentions as a thank you for what she has done.

Out-bloody-standing!

If only our American Bishop's here were as, er, well...I'll leave it at that.

Canon 915 anyone?

Unfortunately, S-P, the Bishops have nothing whatsoever to do with this... or, dare I say it, much else in the pro-life battleground!

Her late father was one of Britain's leading thoroughbred owner/breeders; his greatest moment on the turf was when his extremely talented colt, Slip Anchor, won the Epsom Derby.

I remember reading in the "Racing Post" two stories about him. One, when he was giving an after-dinner speech somewhere, and one of the guests started to get physically sick; His Lordship, unruffled, said: "Oh, thank you for bringing that up".

Second, apparently when he was a young man in the twenties, he went on a trip to Germany, and one day was driving a car with a German friend. They actually knocked a man down; but he wasn't driving fast, and the man got up, dusted himself down, and they shook hands and off he went. The German friend then told Howard de Walden that the man he had knocked down was an aspiring politician named Adolf Hitler.
