Prayers Please...

...I've been told that we have a couple of new school governors. New brooms and all that jazz seem to be the order of the day. They are going to be observing my Year 8 lesson tomorrow morning...

I hate being "observed." This is a totally irrational feeling: after all, I am being "observed" by thirty or so teenagers at each lesson, plus any LSAs (that's Learning Support Assistants) who are attached to particular children, not to mention lab technicians who wander in and out at various points and other members of the Science department who are wandering around looking for equipment, children, LSAs or science technicians...

...but I still hate being observed. Prayers would be appreciated...

...I don't think they can sack me!

  1. Of course, prayers for you. I guess tomorrow is not the day to teach the youngsters how to blow up their homes with only a few simple household products. [Did you not have off today?! I thought Nov. 5 was a national holiday.]

  2. Be assured of mine, Mac. I don't like it either. One of the many joys of 'not working' is that I don't have any butterfly-tummy things to do. I don't envy you but will pray for you. You can have my 5th decade this evening (the others are taken, as usual by: vocations; the unborn; thanksgiving for faith; and thanksgiving for family); how about that?

  3. Very generous of you both to respond so quickly... especially when it isn't life threatening or anything!
    :-D

And Karen, any pope-in-effigy-burning has to be done in our own free time!

  4. Actually, pray for the Governors too. As an ex-teacher, I was quick to say, as a new Governor, that I didn't want to go into any class to which the teacher hadn't invited me, and that there was little value I could add just because I'd witnessed an hour's lesson.

They probably felt it would be rude to say "No" to the invitation.

At least there are two more people who are prepared to give up their time to making sure that you can have what you need to be able to keep teaching.

  5. Ttony - it turned out that they were more interested in the room than in my teaching.

Both governors were on the Premises Committee and had asked to go round various rooms to see them in action...

I was asked whether I'd left my door open because it was very hot in the room. I had to point out that actually I'd left it open because otherwise I'd have had to interrupt my lesson in order to go and let them in!

  7. You're welcome. I appreciate it wasn't life-threatening but there were no other pressing claims on my fifth decade: you might not be so lucky next time! Glad it went well.
