The Snowman...With A Twist...

I was visiting some friends one evening when I spotted a little picture book belonging to one of their children. In pictures, but without words, it went through the story of The Snowman by Raymond Briggs. I'd never seen the film or read the book, but had heard (ad nauseam) the song by Aled Jones... everyone raved on about how wonderful the film was, and the music, etc. etc.

However, a few years ago, an advert for a soft drink completely changed my (lack of) appreciation for the song... Here's Irn Bru's version of events...

  1. Ah, Irn Bru, miracle hangover cure and, on a scientific note, the only substance known to man that cannot be removed from carpets. Sick, red wine, tomato sauce, they all come out - but not Irn Bru.

A Canadian we stayed with in Canada, whose mother was Scottish, recalled how he was walking down Buchanan St in Glasgow and had to physically restrain himself from removing sippy cups from a number of toddlers that had, you guessed it, Irn Bru, in them.

The Irish better half, on first tasting it - 'Why would anyone drink that?' I think it's like Haggis and square sausage - If you are Scottish - you have to!

  3. I like it ... that's Irn Bru, haggis, and those scottish pies and brown sauce (forgot what they're called).

I watched the video several times. Recognised the Fourth Bridge (of course) and the Wheel Aquaduct just outside Edinburgh. But did not recognise the other buildings. Can anyone help?

    Thanx for posting this video.

    God bless.

PS BTW - I have the LP!! Yes 33 and a third speed and Paul Auty who was a Chorister with St. Paul's Cathedral is the original soloist on this song. Aled Jones recorded it later and made the top 40 (TOTP)

What a mind of useful (?) information

  6. Thank you so much Berenike for your list. I was concentrating more on Edinburgh, which I know well, and had forgotten Glasgow and other parts of Scotland.

Thank you for taking the trouble to write in.

    God bless.
