"Truly, it is the indescribable sweetness of contemplation which you give to those who love you. In this you have shown the tenderness of your charity, that when I had no being you made me; and when I strayed away from you, you brought me back again to serve you and commanded me to love you." Fr. Longenecker's Claim To Fame...
...Sorry, but whatever else he has done pales into insignificance beside this one: he met Mel Gibson. And talked to him. And suggested a scene for his film, The Passion of the Christ. Like, wow! You can read more about it HERE...
If memory serves, I think Mel gave himself an uncredited bit part. Watch the part where the soldier nails Jesus to the cross. You'd have to do a freeze frame because the moment is so brief and he's wearing a helmet and all the other accoutrements - but I think that's him.
He definitely was the hand shown that nailed Christ's hand to the cross... he did it as a symbolic thing, to show that his sins had helped to nail Christ to the cross.
