    'Dangling modifier' (or 'dangling/misrelated participle') means that the implicit subject of the participle construction is not identical with the subject of the main clause, which it should be.
    Being patriotic: the implicit subject is 'I'.
    ... the flag inspires me every day: the subject is 'the flag'
    These constructions are used by native speakers even though strictly speaking they are incorrect. They are, however, correct in technical English as well as in cliché phrases such as 'Having said that, scientists can be expected to....', 'Speaking as a layman, scientists are...', 'Being quite frank, he is a fool.'.
