Graveyard Humour

Along with the ghastly choice of "Colours of Day" as a nice hymn for a Cremation Service, this struck me as one of the funniest shop signs ever...

Mantilla twitched in the direction of Gem of the Ocean - a new blog from Karen H, who (I believe) commented frequently as "Karen H - San Diego" so pop on over and have a little look!

(And just in case you don't know Colours of Day, I will just point out that the chorus starts: "So light up the fire, and let the flame burn" and a priest I knew told me that he was the one doing the cremation service, so it isn't just an urban myth...)

  1. Thanks for the twitch!! My friend Christine and I just about wet our pants when we saw it. The pic is a little fuzzy -- but all the essentials are there!!! I thought we had all the "out there" stuff in California, but they had us beat on this one. Maybe because in California we pretend dying is an option. Though I have to say flying in and out of Denver on the way back had me thinking about those "last things." [I don't think I'd been on a flight as choppy going into (we bounced on the runway when we landed!) or on take off for a good 15 minutes into the flight. (I've been through earth quakes less annoying) -- Denver is notorious for "wind sheer" which is why I usually avoid it. I felt a little safer on the flight than I ought to have - as it happend the star of the show we'd gone to see had the same flight out of Sacramento that I did. I was counting on the Almighty not to take one so talented too young!

  2. Genuine hymns that I was asked for as an Anglican Clergyman for a Cremation included "Give me oil in my lamp, Keep me burning.."
