I had always assumed that there was this strange substance known to man (but rarely by woman) and it was called "duct tape..." However, for some reason, when I asked for "duct tape," I was given "duck tape" and my pronunciation gently corrected. I assumed that I had misheard it.
...and since everyone seemed to call it duck tape, I wanted to know why. I issued a heartfelt plea in the course of one of my Holy Week posts. Sure enough, I was told that I had it wrong: it is actually "duct" tape after all...
Right. I think I got that. So now, can someone please stop me gibbering...
Duct Tape is God's personal gift to mankind. It can do everything from repairing a tear on a sleeping bag (mine) to keeping fishhooks organized to constructing sculptures to keeping a cut closed in an emergency (a man mauled by a bear once did that).
ReplyDeleteAnd say it either way...but don't call it "grey tape" and don't put it on people unless it's an emergency.
Histor
I used to know a young man who always called it "duck tape". Drove him up the walls by always responding "why on earth would anyone want to take a duck." He'd just glare at me and say "duct tape", between clenched teeth. It was fun.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I agree. We have this super-duper duct-tape over here called "Gorilla Tape", it's thick, black and requires an oxygen welder to cut.
ReplyDeleteIt and roaches (and Gordon Brown) will remain after the baloon goes up.
I couldn't resist posting this based on your post!
ReplyDeletepoor duck...
