Though having been a Methodist choir director before coming into the Church, I'm inoculated against bad music (I've heard worse).

All I could think of was "Thank you, thank you, we'll be here all week. And even then, I just might not be able to stand it. I haven't been back to my Latin rite parish since the "going forth song" was "This little light of mine." And that is only inappropriate for the setting-I would be glad to sing it around a campfire. The music you describe would be simply impossible for me to tolerate. Thank God I live where I can attend-and have joined, a Byzantine rite parish.

If there were no masses I could drive to except those with music such as you describe.... I would more cheerfully face the lions than that.
God might have to forgive me for becoming Orthodox. I think He would, too.
Susan Petersoneulogoshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05307036781446427993noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28018475.post-67174342253043821882011-06-14T22:13:44.186+01:002011-06-14T22:13:44.186+01:00This comment has been removed by the author.HannahElizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09345955785105172352noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28018475.post-35514816578585190972011-06-13T14:56:15.175+01:002011-06-13T14:56:15.175+01:00Mac,
Good taste?
Are you familiar with Gerard Ma...Mac,

Good taste?

Are you familiar with Gerard Manley Hopkin's statement in a letter to his father, "One is always finding bad taste in the accessories of Catholicism." ?

And outside of the Ordinariate, while traveling, unfortunately something like this might be compulsory with the alternative being not fulfilling one's Sunday mass obligation. ( still a mortal sin, you know.) Or you could LIVE somewhere where you had to drive 40 or 50 miles of a Sunday to avoid this sort of thing.

And when you are actually in the church you usually have to see the smug faces of the performers, always up front to the side of the altar, who clearly believe they are the cat's pajamas.

Susan Petersoneulogoshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05307036781446427993noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28018475.post-1156990728767452742011-06-13T11:53:48.129+01:002011-06-13T11:53:48.129+01:00It's definitely not compulsory - and hopefully...It's definitely not compulsory - and hopefully common sense and good taste will prevail...Mulier Fortishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01186202810919174492noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-28018475.post-66157327686983741172011-06-13T11:49:36.615+01:002011-06-13T11:49:36.615+01:00Loved the chicken........... the intro was sort of...Loved the chicken........... the intro was sort of OK .......... then the 'singing'started (20 seconds sine you asked). I can almost see flash of the signet rings; the pink frilly shirts; the purple velvet jackets, with matching elasticated bow-ties; the compulsory bell-bottoms swaying gently over the nylon socks in time to the bossanova and the sideburns - oh the sideburns with matching Mark Spitz moustache. And for the ladies the C&A midi-dresses with white pvc platform boots sparking against the burnt orange shagpile. Is there Life on Mars?
